Well I’m sure most people by now know what CPA is, because of the hype that’s been going around about it for a while now, but for those who don’t it stands for “Cost Per Action” or “Cost Per Acquisition” and it’s a form of affiliate marketing where you get paid for an “action”, so this could be an email sign up (a lead), or a trial offer! Generally if you can sign someone up for something, whether it is free or paid, you’ll make a commission which is known as CPA Marketing!

CPA Marketing is actually something that’s not nearly as big as the standard affiliate marketing model of using Clickbank to generate sales! – However, CPA can be FAR more powerful! – The reason being is that you can minimize your RISK a lot more by doing CPA marketing over standard Affiliate marketing with say Clickbank!

For example: If you are promoting a product from Clickbank via PPC then it may take you 100 clicks to actually make a sale! Let’s say the product converts at 1% then you’ll make 1 sale for every 100 clicks, if you’ve got a product that pays you $40 per sale, and you get 100 clicks then you’ll make $40, however that’s not profit because you’ve spent money on clicks!

Imagine though that you pick the wrong keywords, instead of actually making that sale after on average 100 clicks, you might not make a sale at all, and you’ll have spent $X amount on paying for clicks! – Now, with CPA it’s different because you are getting paid PER LEAD! – So usually this might be a simple sign up form and you’ll get paid anywhere from $1-$3 for simple email submits!

Now, of course you’re conversion rate will be much higher, but when you get 100 clicks you’ll generally get FAR MORE than you would have with promoting a clickbank product! Even if you don’t PROFIT, you’ll cut your losses because you’ll still make money from people who do sign up! So let’s say you’re offer pays out $2 and you sent 100 clicks for $.20 per click. That’s cost you $20 so you only need 10 people to submit their info and you’ll have broke even, so even if only 10 people sign up and you break even, now you can adjust your CPC slightly and tweak your campaign and it’ll soon turn into a profitable one!

You really need to decide exactly how you plan to promote CPA offers! Sure we all want to do it and make money, but if you don’t know how to actually get started then you’ll have some troubles! – The best thing to do is decide how you want to market CPA offers.

Do you want paid advertising or free?

Here are a few ways that work well:

  • Media Buying Adbrite, BuySellAds etc – Don’t do this unless you are experienced)
  • SEO – Create organic campaigns
  • Forums – a bit slow, but it can work if you stick at it!

It’s hard when you start off to actually make money online with CPA, that’s the REAL truth, but if you actually keep trying and learn it, then you will make some!
